JOHN MORALES
(NYC Legend // M&M Mixes // Paradise Garage Tour // Southport Weekender)
"In music, and especially in underground music, the word 'legend' is thrown around to the point where it loses all meaning. What is a legend? It's someone who broke the mold - someone whose sounds, techniques - even his style - changed things forever. It's a pioneer that everyone who followed after emulated, whether consciously or not. In dance music, the person you're talking about is John Morales". 5chicago.com
In case you don't already know about this prolific Remixer/Producer/DJ, here's a brief low down of his career:
Hailing from New York, in the 70's and 80's John Morales ran with the crew that practically invented house music!
Notching up 500+ tracks over the last 30+ years, John has mixed some of the biggest dance music tracks of all time, and is most famous for producing hits for Jocelyn Brown, First Choice, Inner Life, Teddy Pendergrass, Candi Staton, Loletta Holloway, Skyy, Universal Robot Band, War, The Fatback Band, Salsoul Orchestra, Logg & Brass Construction.
As as DJ, John guested in clubs all over the Bronx and New York, starting at Stardust Ballroom (where a young Jellybean Benitez had worked) before going on to play at 1018 and Studio 54.
John started his production career making his own edits before getting his first real breaks with Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams.
With M&M Mixes production partner Sergio Munzibai, John is the man behind an endless list of salsoul and disco classics which were played by Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage, as well as influencing Arthur Baker, Tony Humphries, Juan Atkins, Marshall Jefferson, Dimitri From Paris and so many more.
John recently released M&M Mixes Vol II on BBE Records to critical aclaim and has been busy in the studio working with Eddie Kendricks, Chanelle, DJ Meme, Teena Marie, and Marvin Gaye's 40th Anniversary 'What's Going On' Remastered LP.
Spinning in the UK at the Southport Weekender, Horse & Groom, East Village, Alibi, Bar 137, Zunday Zocial, Soup Kitchen and Leaf Cafe, John has also DJ'd all over Europe, and did the Paradise Garage Tour this year with Victor Rosado & Lenny Fontana.
Expect everything from killer house tracks by Kenny Dope, Osunlade, Joey Negro, Kerri Chandler, Danny Krivit & Greg Wilson, to the finest nu disco, plus a pile of his own classic mixes. We can't wait to hear John play in Preston!
